Summary
Loan Officer must seek potential clients, individuals or
businesses, in need of loans. He/She
will specialize in commercial consumer, or mortgage loans.
Often act as a salesperson, persuading clients to obtain loans from their
institutions or, in the case of mortgage loan officers, developing relationships
with real estate agencies that might refer homebuyers to them.
Loan Officers also help clients apply for loans.

Essential Functions
- Gather
information about clients to ensure that an informed decision is made
regarding the quality of the loan and the probability of repayment.
- Analyze
applicants' financial status, credit, and property evaluations to determine
feasibility of granting loans.
- Analyze
potential loan markets and develop referral networks in order to locate
prospects for loans.
- Compute
payment schedules.
- Approve
loans within specified limits, and refer loan applications outside those
limits to management for approval.
- Describe
and explain different types of loans and credit options that are available
to customers.
- Meet
with applicants to obtain information for loan applications and to answer
questions about the process.
- Negotiate
payment arrangements with customers who have delinquent loans.
- Obtain
and compile copies of loan applicants’ credit histories, corporate
financial statements, and other financial information.
- Prepare
reports for customers whose accounts are delinquent, and forward
irreconcilable account for collector action.
- Review
and update credit and loan files.
- Review
loan agreements to ensure that they are complete and accurate according to
policy.
- Submit
applications to credit analysts for verification and recommendation.
- Work
with clients to identify their financial goals and continue working towards
achieving those goals.
- Arrange
for maintenance and liquidation of delinquent properties.
- Handle
customer complaints and take appropriate action to resolve them.
- Interview,
hire, and train new employees.
- Market
bank products to individuals and firms, promoting bank services that may
meet customers’ needs.
- Provide
special services such as investment banking for clients with more
specialized needs.
- Set
credit policies, credit lines, procedures and standards in conjunction with
senior managers.
- Maintain
awareness of new types of loans and other financial services and products in
order to better meet customers’ needs.
- Supervise
loan personnel.

Essential Job Qualifications
An ideal candidate should have strong sales experience, work well with
residential customers and preferably have mortgage sales experience. This
individual should be a team player who is energetic, enthusiastic, and eager to
learn new concepts. Most critically, one must possess excellent communication
skills, both in person and over the telephone. An outgoing personality and a
fun, good-natured individual is an ideal candidate. In the case of a handicap, company MUST and WILL make reasonable

Education/Experience
- Knowledge
of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets,
banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
- Advanced
knowledge of mathematics, algebra, statistics, geometry, calculus, and their
applications.
- Advanced
verbal and written communication skills.
- Efficient
in the use of personal computers, including word processing software.
- Knowledge
of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations,
executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.
- Knowledge
of providing outstanding customer and personal service.

- Good
